King Henry VIII Relays Race 2026 - Coventry

On Wednesday 28th January, six students from the Weald of Kent competed in the prestigious King Henry VIII Relay Race in Coventry. The students ran 4 x 2.3 miles over a combination of road and woodland. The A team finished in an incredible 6th place, against some of the top athletes in the country. The race attracts the top running schools in the country, who descend upon the War Memorial Park in Coventry to complete the fast but challenging course. New Hall school took the overall girls title, with West Kirby and Woodbridge School taking the top 3 spots.  Holly (13E) was the first leg runner; she just missed out on making the top 10 fastest times of the day.  She ran with great confidence and gave Weald a fantastic position coming off the first leg in 9th position. This set up Holly (10H) perfectly for a strong, courageous run taking Weald up into 6th position.  Isabel (11C) timed her run to perfection on leg three, taking Weald into a podium position and into 3rd place. Isabel ran a superb leg, passing several runners and gaining confidence with every stride. Isla (11A) was the anchor leg for the Weald team, she ran a strong race, digging very deep to keep Weald in the race, however with superb runners coming up fast from Loughborough College and Upton Hall School, Weald slipped back into a very respectable 6th place overall. A huge well done to Millie and Rina who competed for the Weald B team, but we were unfortunately unable to complete the team on the day; both runners were still able to excel over the 2.3-mile course.  Weald's 6th place finish out of 38 competing schools ranks us firmly as one of the top running schools in the country. I want to personally congratulate and thank the six runners who competed with such confidence, strength and passion on Wednesday afternoon. It was an absolute pleasure to support and encourage them on the day.
