Earlier in the year, many of our A Level Economics students took part in the first two rounds of the Economics Olympiad, achieving some very high scores. Two of our students secured a place in the Finals, putting them amongst the top 3.5% of over 4,000 students nationwide. This was a great achievement and they should be incredibly proud of their performance and the dedication, knowledge and critical thinking that brought them to this stage.

On Monday, the finalists sat a challenging assessment at SOAS, University of London and were then provided with the opportunity to hear from leading economists and commentators, including Professor Linda Yueh, Dr Yannis Dafermos, Soumaya Keynes and Professor Ha-Joon Chang. It was a fascinating day covering topics such as AI and sustainability, trade wars and financial crashes. Whilst we missed out on a top 10 place, the day was a superb celebration of our young economists and a brilliant opportunity to think more deeply about a number of current economic issues.

"Competing in the final of the economics Olympiad was an exciting and informative opportunity. The experience was challenging but I learnt a lot from taking part and the guest speaker lectures throughout the day were very engaging and thoughtful." Amelia, Year 12
